If you think something is wrong, please call your midwife!

Please call immediately if you experience:
  • An automobile accident, a blow to your abdomen, or a serious fall
  • A fever greater than 101 for more than an hour
  • Vaginal bleeding; pink/brown mucous is okay, but red blood like a period isn’t.
  • You think your water broke. Note TACO: Time, Amount, Color, Odor
  • Sharp abdominal pain or a persistent rigid or hard abdomen.
  • Regular contractions before 37 weeks that increase in intensity and become more frequent despite drinking water, taking a warm bath, and resting.
  • Decreased or absent movement of your baby even after drinking juice and lying down and talking to him.
  • Continuous thrashing by your baby
Please call or text within 24 hours if you experience:
  • Painful urination, greatly increased urgency, or pelvic/lower back tenderness or pain.
  • Itching, burning or irritation in vagina or labia
  • Vomiting for more than 24 hours if you cannot keep any fluids down
  • A combination of 2 or more of these symptoms, especially in 3rd trimester:
    • Severe headache that doesn’t respond to increased fluids, rest, or over the counter medicines like Tylenol.
    • Sudden increased swelling in face, hands, feet, and legs;
    • Visual disturbances such as spots in front of your eyes or blurred vision for no apparent reason
    • Generally not feeling well or feeling yucky
    • Pain in your upper right abdomen not related to baby’s positions/movement.
We welcome questions between appointments!
  • Text is the easiest way to reach us with non-urgent questions, including rescheduling appointments. We will respond within 24 hours, likely much sooner.
  • Please text between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., as we are always on call and our phones are never off.
  • You’re welcome to text with questions about diet, common pregnancy discomforts, or just checking “is this normal?”
  • If you need to get a hold of us and we’re not answering a text, please call, especially during the night when we are sleeping.
