My name is Emily Thompson, and I am a Registered, Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) working in Colorado Springs, Colorado. My passion for birth began with the births of my own children, and has only expanded in the past 10 years that I have been attending births. I love every aspect of birth: the complexity and science of pregnancy and birth, the relational and emotional aspect of birth as a child is added to a family, and the bond that grows between the midwife and the family as they walk through the weeks and months leading up to the birth of the child.
I pursued a traditional apprenticeship education, combining self-study of midwifery and related disciplines with the practical hands-on experience of working with an experienced midwife. I worked with Lori Wilson, a long-time Colorado Springs midwife as an apprentice/assistant from 2007 until Lori’s retirement in 2014. I began taking my own clients as an intern midwife in 2011. I finished the training requirements laid out by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) in summer 2013, completed testing requirements and obtained my Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) credential and registered with the state of Colorado in the spring of 2014. I hold a B.S. in Chemistry from Hillsdale college, and my interest in science makes me particularly fascinated by the physiology of natural birth. Evidence-based care and informed consent are the hallmarks of my practice.
